Child Development Center, Ventura College

Ventura College has been providing high quality preschool education and child care services to the College and surrounding community since 1976. In addition, the program serves as a model and laboratory for college students preparing for careers in the field of early childhood education.

The core of the programs philosophy is belief in the importance of active, hands-on learning for young children and the understanding that the preschool years are a critical time for brain development; both ideas that have been verified through research. The program strives to nurture the whole child, providing a rich environment with a wide variety of activities designed to foster childrens physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Emphasis is placed on providing a positive first school experience as the first step toward a lifelong love of learning.

In order to meet the varying needs of the families served a variety of programs are offered, including a program for 2-year-olds, a traditional preschool program and a family co-op preschool program. The Center offers a flexible scheduling policy, with children able to attend anywhere from 8:30 11:30 am, 2 mornings per week all the way to 7:45 am 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Classrooms are available for children who are not yet toilet trained. The Center is licensed by the California Department of Social Services, facility #561711563 and #561711564.
