Open Classroom philosophy supports the education of the whole child.
If you are interested in enrolling your child, or children, in Open Classroom K-8, you will first need to attend an Orientation Meeting and a Tour of Open Classroom.
After attending an Orientation and a Tour, all applicants MUST fill out and return a mandatory School of Choice lottery form to the Ventura Unified School District.
The V.U.S.D. School of Choice application window for the upcoming year has not yet been announced, however, it is typically the last two weeks of January each year. School of Choice Application forms will be available during the School of Choice application window at any local V.U.S.D. school, or the District Office located at 255 West Stanley in Ventura.
Once the V.U.S.D. School of Choice Lottery is complete (usually late February), a list of applicants will be forwarded to Open Classroom Admissions. Applicants will be contacted at that time to set up a classroom visitation with their child.
Applicants are accepted to Open Classroom K-8 based on completion of the O.C. Admission requirements and their V.U.S.D. Lottery number.
Open Classroom is open to K-8 students residing within the boundaries of the Ventura Unified School District. Applicants who live outside the Ventura Unified School District may apply, but will require an Inter-District Transfer [i.e. they must be released from their home district and then accepted by the Ventura Unified School District] in order to enroll. Applicants residing outside the V.U.S.D. must complete all regular admission requirements, in addition to obtaining an Inter-District Transfer, to be eligible for enrollment.
