Making Memories with Your Grandchildren
Sue Johnson’s GrandLoving: Making Memories with Your Grandchildren is an easy-to-read primer for grandparents. Johnson writes about each stage of grandparenting, from pregnancy through emerging adulthood. She provides a glimpse into what the child, the new parents, and the grandparents may be experiencing and feeling during each stage, all through the lens of the grandparents. There are helpful tips on how to respond to a miscarriage or learning to be flexible when visiting the grandchildren at their home. Each chapter ends with several (easy!) projects that grandparents and grandchildren can work on together, that are appropriate for each developmental stage, and facilitate a meaningful experience. Johnson even includes of list of supplies “to pack in your suitcase.” The latest edition of GrandLoving has been updated to include a chapter on staying in touch with technology (Skype, texting, etc).
GrandLoving would make a great gift for new grandparents, grandparents who live far from their grandchildren, and those who want to make the most of their time with grandchildren.
